Quantock car park open
Noticed today May 6h that the Cothelstone Car Park, just up from the burnt out Pines, has had its police tape across the entrance removed. So common sense has returned.
First cuckoo
Your webmaster heard a cuckoo today, St George's Day, bang on time, above West Bagborough. Anyone beat that?

Message from The Chair

It is with much regret that following the direction from Head Office earlier this week we are cancelling, with immediate effect, all led walks that appear in our Winter Programme, and also those that appear in our Spring/Summer Programme for April and May. You will appreciate that this a precaution to slow the spread of the coronavirus and, hopefully in time, this decision may be reviewed.

As active people you may be partially consoled with the news that independent walking is still acceptable, and it is hoped that you will take whatever opportunity you can to pursue this form of exercise. I would be happy to advise on any "independent" walks that members might seek to enjoy over the next few months. I have details of scores of walks both long and short. Do feel free to contact me:

Hi Everyone

Following the announcement by the Government yesterday the Ramblers are suspending all led walks with immediate effect.

Ramblers GB are suspending activities from Wednesday 18 March until at least 31 May 2020 – subject to further developments, including:

  • all group led walks.
  • all Ramblers Walking for Health schemes.
  • all activities by Ramblers volunteers including training, path maintenance working groups, coach trips and holidays, meetings, group and social events training for Ramblers.
Full details can be found here:-

Stay safe.

Professor Martin Marshall, chair of the Royal College of GPs, said: “While self-isolation and social distancing are both vital measures to help combat the spread of Covid-19, they could inevitably have repercussions on people’s health due to inactivity and the impact of loneliness. Getting out and about is something that should benefit people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing.”
